A blog for me to post about things that I geek out to.
The IT Crowd's first six episodes ran last year on Channel 4, and was widely shared online, resulting in major commercial success, critical acclaim, and a renewed contract for another season of the show.
I was privileged to consult a little on the show, and I was able to connect Graham with uber-geek Yoz Grahame, who suggested that the disc carry subtitles in leet (or 1337), the letter/number substitution code used by gamers, hackers and other net-dwellers.
The disc is region-locked to Europe, but I hear that a US version is coming shortly. Link (Thanks, Damien!)

Great article on the differences between the Sprint and Verizon Wireless Broadband products. I have known for quite some time that we are providing a better offering, and I am delighted that some else is seeing the same thing.

BBC NEWS | Entertainment | How Borat hoaxed America
Sounds like most of the folks interviewed for this article are still fans of Sacha even after finding out they were fooled.
A friend of mine is at the Hollywood premier tonight. I wish I was there as well.

gizmag Article: Fogscreen: projecting images in the air
March 21, 2005 Finnish company FogScreen has begun volume production ofits unique walk-through projection screen. The FogScreen Inia screenprojects high-quality images onto a thin laminar air flow of watervapour. The FogScreen feels dry and cool to the touch and accordinglycreates an effect of the computer generated images floating in thin airand can hence be used in the development of special effects displaysand airborne advertising media, walk-through or drive-through postersand is expected to be used as a high impact advertising medium inmalls, airports and mass audience events. There have already beenenquiries from Hollywood production companies and "we expect thecreative possibilities will inspire those in entertainment," said NancyGretzinger of Fogscreen's US distributor Imagex. "Beyond that, we arealso looking at point-of-sale advertising, corporate lobbies, and otherareas that could benefit from the innovative communication," she said.

Verizon offers an "unlimited" wireless data download service. It is, apparently, not all that unlimited. Specifically, it's limited to five gig per month. After that, you get fined $175 and your account is cancelled.

This weekend I finally got the Slingbox. This thing is fantastic. I really wish I had had this while I was in Europe.
I have hooked this up to my laptop, the computer connected to the TV in the bedroom and my PPC6700. I can switch from the Moxi to the built in cable tuner. I just wish the IR codes for the Moxi worked properly. I will be excited when they get it working right. In the meantime, this is still the coolest device to come out in quite sometime.

Cory Doctorow: Two brown men were forced off a plane by a bunch of non-brown British passengers who became convinced that they were behaving suspiciously and were therefore terrorists. Shocking -- who'd have thought that putting signs everywhere telling you that you were in danger of terrorists and that terrorists were everywhere and that you should look out for suspicious terrorism behavior would turn normal people into witch-hunting racist mobs? The extraordinary scenes happened after some of the 150 passengers on a Malaga-Manchester flight overheard two men of Asian appearance apparently talking Arabic. Passengers told cabin crew they feared for their safety and demanded police action. Some stormed off the Monarch Airlines Airbus A320 minutes before it was due to leave the Costa del Sol at 3am. Others waiting for Flight ZB 613 in the departure lounge refused to board it...Link (Thanks, Amit and Andrew!)Passengers noticed that, despite the heat, the pair were wearing leather jackets and thick jumpers and were regularly checking their watches...
Half an hour later, police returned and escorted the two Asian passengers off the jet...
Websites used by pilots and cabin crew were yesterday reporting further incidents. In one, two British women with young children on another flight from Spain complained about flying with a bearded Muslim even though he had been security-checked twice before boarding.

Good News! This new WiFi phone ships next month and is cheaper than originally expected. I believe this will be the device that replaces our landline in our condo. Well, we don't actually have a landline, but this replaces our need to get one. Cellphone service is less than stellar inside our place so we are relegated to the patio for calls. Since we have WiFi throughout the whole building (or will soon ) this phone would give us coverage from the kitchen to the pool.
We are starting to use Skype more and more, in fact this August when I go to Europe for a two week tour we'll be using Skype to call each other. I'll be using the Sprint PPC6700 in any hotspot I can find while I'm there.

I love this application so much. You can see my write up about it on my site www.christiancrowe.com under the GOTG heading on the Home Media page.
The programmer who made it got hired by Equinox and now it has been repackaged and cost $29.95.
I'll probably go ahead and purchase it. It really is quite cool.

Granted, I just bought this new Muse album, but I'm really enjoying it so far. I'm only on the fourth track at the time of this posting. I really really liked the last record so my expectations are high.
Soldier's Poem has some real cool "Queen" influences.
Check out their website, it's Uber Rad! www.muse.mu

Last night we went to Hollywood and visited the Magic Castle with our good friends Renee, Ugo, Josh and Judy.
It's a private club that only allows visitors with an invitation. Renee is a Massage Therapist and was invited by a client, so that is how we all got the opportunity to attend.
It was interesting to say the least. We had dinner and drinks and went to three different shows. The showrooms are all quite small and intimate so everyone has a good view of the performers doing their tricks. Of course there were card tircks galore, vanishing doves, and amazing slight-of-hand magicians donning their talent of 30 some years.
I don't think Chelle and I are going to try to become members anytime soon, but it was fun to visit and people watch for sure, and now we can scratch that off of our list of things to do before leaving Cali.
Thanks again to Sweet Renee for her cool event planning skills and the chance to do out of the ordinary things with fun friends!
